Posted 14 days ago  in Parent & Family NewsFall Orientation 2026.

Thursday, May 28th we hosted the first part of our summer webinar series designed to orient incoming DU families to the offices and requirements of the university, as well as provide support to help you better support your student's journey at DU. A huge thank you to this week's campus partner, the Office of the Registrar for joining and welcoming the newest class at the University of Denver.

Below you will find the recording of the webinar and a PDF of the slide deck.

The first webinar detailed an overview of your student's orientation and first-quarter experience at DU. We introduce you to our entire New Student and Family Programming Team (NSFP) to outline the new student experience and family orientation. The Office of the Registrar discussed the implications of FERPA and how students can release some of their educational records. We covered your student's new student summer timeline and gave an overview of all components required for your student to start in the fall.

We understand how busy our families can be, so if you are unable to attend any of the live webinars and want to review the information, please utilize the links provided below or the provided PDF. After each webinar, we will upload a copy of the slides and audio recording to our DU Family Experience portal AND to our DU Family Webinar Series webpage

An important reminder that DU operates on the quarter system and we are still in school - offices are working to successfully conclude and graduate this school year's students as they support new students and families in their transition. If it feels like your student is a month behind some peers, it's likely that peer is attending a semester school. Move-in and the start of orientation will be Tuesday, September 1st.

Helpful Links Shared During the Webinar:

Top Questions Asked During Webinar:

Are there any tasks my student should be doing over the summer?

Students need to complete the Summer Discoveries Experience Course through Canvas. There are four modules that release monthly. If your student has not completed the May module yet, there's still time! It is strongly encouraged that students complete modules 1 and 2 before their small group advising appointments in July to be fully prepared. All modules need to be completed before their arrival on campus in September. You can find more information about modules and content within the course in the attached slide deck.

Is there a checklist for all these tasks?

Yes! New students have a widget on their My4D portal titled "2026 New Student Checklist." Here they'll find action items, links, and more capturing all their steps to transitioning to DU. Families can utilize this website for important dates and deadlines for new students.

How does my student verify their DU email address?

The DU IT office (support@du.edu) will start creating DU email accounts for students after they submit their enrollment deposit. Approximately 72 hours after you submit your enrollment deposit, support@du.edu will send your student a very important email that contains their new DU email address and their new login credentials for my4D. If they cannot locate this email, please contact Undergraduate Admission at admission@du.edu.

If they're having trouble setting up Outlook or Duo Multi-factor identification, they can explore this site to request help from DU IT or read helpful articles.

When will students learn their housing, roommate, and move-in assignments?

The housing application priority deadline is June 22nd to create roommate groups. If your student misses this deadline, they are still required to live on campus, there will be limited request opportunities with roommate and residence hall. Students requesting housing accommodations through Student Disability Services must be submitted by June 22nd. Housing assignments will be released on July 28th. Students will receive more information in July regarding selecting a move-in time. Move-in details, what to bring, and orientation information will be shared with families at our July 22nd webinar.

My student is looking for a roommate, do you have any suggestions to find one?

Incoming students have access to an app called ZeeMee managed by the office of Undergraduate Admissions. Within ZeeMee, there are specific chat rooms created to help students connect with other student's looking for roommates. Student can download ZeeMee in the app store and will be prompted to select University of Denver. If your student has questions about ZeeMee or how to use the app to find a roommate, they should call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 303-871-2036

How long should I be on campus during orientation?

Families are encouraged to stay on Tuesday, September 1st to attend Family Orientation! This includes our Family Wish Wall, New Student Convocation and the Crimson Cookout! Find more info here. After Tuesday, your student will be in orientation sessions the rest of the week and we recommend families transition back home.

What are the dates for Family Weekend?

DU Family Weekend occurs in the spring quarter! We announce our event dates at Homecoming (October 23-24, 2026). Homecoming is a great time to visit your student in the fall! We'll have family programming and plenty of events to explore.

What is the registration timeline for new students?

New student virtual small group advising will take place July 7th - 17th. Registration for new students takes place July 20th–24th, 2026. Students will receive guidance through small group advising appointments over Zoom the weeks before advising. For the month of June, students will complete Module 2 of the Summer Discoveries Experience course in Canvas. Within module 2, students will learn important background knowledge to support the small group advising sessions that will take place in July. All advising information will be shared with families during our Advising Kickoff webinar on June 30th. Registration Here!
