Watch the recording here!

Important Dates:

  • Friday, November 21st @9am - Residence Halls Close
  • Sunday, January 4th @9am - Residence Halls Re-Open for Winter Quarter
  • Monday, January 5th - First Day of Classes for Winter Quarter

Fall Quarter Closing:
Students must be out of their residence halls by 9am on Friday, November 21st. Residence halls will be closed from November 21st-January 4th, meaning students will not have access to their rooms. They should pack all items and valuable they wish to have over winter break. They do not need to completely move out, personal items can be left in their rooms. Remind students to take their DU ID cards with them, as they'll need it to access their building upon returning to campus. Packages and mail cannot be picked up while the residence halls are closed.

Winter Quarter Opening:
Residence halls will re-open to students at 9am on Sunday, January 4th. Students may not access their rooms before this time. If your student is retuning earlier, they'll need to connect with local friends or make temporary accommodations until residence halls re-open.

Top Asked Questions from the Webinar:

How has my student learned this information?
Residents had mandatory floor meetings between November 5th-11th where Residence Mentors (RMs) shared this information. If your student missed this meeting, they should follow-up with their RM. Additionally, they've received an email from HRE outlining winter closing checklist and checkout instructions. Students will have a winter closing checklist taped to their doors with all actions they need to take. If your student is unsure of this information, encourage them to start with the email from HRE.

What parts of a student meal plan carry over to next quarter?
Fall quarter meals plans end at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 20th. Meal swipes reset at the beginning of each quarter - that means any unused meal swipes from this quarter will not carry over. Meal plan cash is available for the full school year - that means any unused meal plan or flex cash will carry over to next quarter. Meal plan and flex cash must be used by the end of the school year - it will NOT carry over to next school year if it's not used by the end of spring quarter.

Does my student need to reselect a meal plan next quarter?
No! Meal plan selections from the fall will automatically carry over to the next quarter. If your student is interested in reducing or increasing their meal plan, they must do so in the housing portal by Thursday, January 8th. If your student does not want to make any changes to their meal plans, they do not need to take any action.

Is there a shuttle to the airport?
There is not a DU shuttle. However, all DU students have a free RTD Ecopass that allows them to take public transportation to DIA. Typically, the Light Rail is the easiest option to catch near campus. Students would transfer trains at Union Station and then have a direct trip to DIA. They can plan their trip using this website

Any additional questions?
Encourage your student to connect with their RMs or email HRE@du.edu for further instructions.
