FIRST@DU April Newsletter

Dear FIRST@DU Families and Supporters,

Happy Spring Quarter! 🌼
We’re excited to welcome your student (and YOU!) back for a brand-new quarter full of fresh opportunities. As the days get longer and the trees on campus start to bloom, our FIRST@DU community is entering this season with renewed energy and intention.

We hope everyone had a smooth and restful first week back from Spring Break! Whether your student spent the break relaxing, traveling, or catching up on rest after finals, we’re excited to support them as they start this new chapter.

This month is especially meaningful as we prepare for First-Generation Family Weekend—a special opportunity to celebrate, connect, and uplift our first-gen community.

📸 March Recap – Wrapping Up Winter & Recharging
March was a month of transitions! Students wrapped up final exams, pushed through the end of winter quarter, and finally had a well-deserved Spring Break to reset.

Throughout the month, we also hosted several social gatherings and events to help students decompress, connect with peers, and find joy in community. From game nights to laid-back socials, it was a time to recharge before spring quarter officially began.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, participated, or encouraged their student to join in—we love creating space for community and belonging.

📅 RSVPs Now Open for First-Gen Family Weekend!
We are excited to welcome families to First-Generation Family Weekend (April 25–27)—a weekend designed to foster community, celebrate our students, and provide valuable resources to first-gen families.

✨ The main FIRST@DU programming will take place on Saturday, April 26, so be sure to mark your calendar!

✅ Reserve your spot today by completing the RSVP form below:

We will be finalizing the deadline for Family Weekend tickets soon, so stay tuned for more details!

🎓 Graduation Celebration – RSVP Reminder
Is your student graduating this spring? If so, don’t forget to RSVP for the FIRST@DU Graduation Celebration in June!
Your student should’ve received an email from Angie Van Dijk (Angela.VanDijk@du.edu) to RSVP on your behalf. Check in with them to make sure your family is registered to attend this special celebration.

📚 Spring Start = Fresh Goals
With a new quarter underway, this is a great time for students to set clear intentions. Encourage them to:

  • Meet with professors during office hours
  • Visit the Learning Effectiveness Program or the Writing Center
  • Use a planner or calendar to stay organized
  • Check in with their advisors and mentors

💰 Financial Aid Reminders
The 2025–2026 FAFSA and CSS Profile are still open! Filing early helps secure the best financial aid packages. If your student has questions, encourage them to connect with DU’s Office of Financial Aid for support.

🌟 Final Thought
Spring is a season of renewal, and we're so glad to be stepping into it with our amazing FIRST@DU families. Whether you’re attending Family Weekend, cheering on your student from afar, or preparing to celebrate graduation, your support makes all the difference.

We can’t wait to connect with many of you in person this month!

With gratitude,
The FIRST@DU Team
