So that students and their families are aware of campus well-being resources and responsibilities, the DU Health & Counseling Center (HCC) wanted to share the following FYIs:

  1. This week, we are mailing a hardcopy brochure on the range of HCC programs and services, including information below, to undergraduate students’ on-record home address. If that’s also your address, please take a look, encourage your student to do so regardless, and/or visit www.du.edu/hcc for more information.
  2. Students are also being emailed with information and reminders on the following ACTION ITEMS. Please support them in completing these task by noted deadlines.

Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

All DU students must carry a minimum level of medical insurance, either by:

  1. Participating in the DU Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP), through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, a platinum-level plan using the on-campus HCC as their primary provider, OR
  2. Submitting a waiver request by submitting proof of adequate external coverage that meets DU’s waiver requirements.

You can review the DU SHIP and waiver requirements at www.du.edu/hcc Quarter (non-Law) students must confirm enrollment for the new school year OR submit a waiver request by September 27th.

Health & Counseling Fee (HCF)

Similar to an all-student IT or activities fee, the HCF supports campus-wide resources like prevention education and crisis support programs. It also provides individuals with lower costs on direct HCC medical and counseling services, especially when used in combination with SHIP. Undergraduates cannot waive the HCF.

Immunizations

Most incoming students must submit proof of certain immunizations or request exemptions (can do either via HCC website), or can receive the immunizations at the HCC once school begins. From there, students can schedule HCC appointments for a range of vaccinations, for general health and/or travel-specific needs.[LP1] [TW2] [3]

Dates and other details vary for some graduate programs.

Please review the HCC brochure and/or website, talk with your student about relevant resources and action items, and keep the HCC in mind as a partner in supporting your student’s health and well-being while at DU!

Questions? Email hccinfo@du.edu or call 303.871.2205. Please include/have student’s name and DU ID number (87...) ready. And note that, due to privacy laws and policies, we may be limited in what we can discuss with parents/guardians without specific, in-writing permissions from the student.
